A Somatic Journey In Morocco

A Somatic Journey In Morocco

By Dr. Karah Charette, PT, DPT, RYT

In the golden hush of dawn, Morocco stretches awake—desert winds weaving through ancient souks, the sky painted in strokes of amber and rose. Here, time loosens its grip. You arrive barefoot on warm earth, your breath a quiet tide. This is not just a yoga retreat—it’s a homecoming to your body, a remembering of rhythm, rest, and reverence. Welcome to a journey where each movement is a conversation, each breath a ritual, and presence becomes the portal to transformation.

I come to this retreat not only as a yoga teacher, but as a pelvic floor physical therapist, dancer, and somatic movement educator. My work lives at the intersection of science and soul, structure and sensation. For almost a decade, I’ve helped people reconnect with their bodies in meaningful, lasting ways—through movement that is intentional, creative, and deeply embodied.

My teaching style is rooted in the wisdom of alignment, anatomical nuance, and somatic awareness. Whether we’re moving in a playful vinyasa flow or resting in the quiet shape of a yin pose, I weave together functional movement with poetic imagery and emotional depth. Each class is an invitation—to explore the body not as something to fix or perfect, but as something to listen to and honor.

What makes this retreat unique is the care I bring to curation. I don’t just teach classes—I create containers for transformation. Spaces where you feel safe to soften, curious to explore, and free to co-create with others on a path of presence and possibility.

This retreat is not about achieving the perfect pose or pushing beyond your limits. It’s about slowing down enough to feel—truly feel—yourself. It’s about remembering that your body is wise and that movement can be a map back home to your authentic self.

Each session is crafted with deep intention. My vinyasa flows are playful and fluid, like stories unfolding through the body. You’ll move in creative sequences designed to awaken new patterns, spark curiosity, and strengthen your relationship to alignment—not just in the physical sense, but also in how you align with yourself.

In the quieter practices—yin, restorative, and meditative flows—we’ll explore stillness as a space of emotional resonance. These sessions are softer, deeper, and more spacious. They allow for the kind of slowing down that makes room for real insight. There will also be opportunity in these slower flows to feel into intuitive movement. Whether or not you want to label this as dance, I will give you the container of safety to explore how your body may want to express itself without an outside force guiding you or telling you what to do. This is where the nervous system exhales.

As a pelvic floor physical therapist, I bring a lens of safety, precision, and deep respect for the nervous system into every offering. I hold space for all bodies—those healing from injury, those exploring new edges, those simply needing rest. I offer cues that are somatic and invitational, never prescriptive, always rooted in consent and agency.

And most of all, I center community. I believe in co-creation. We build this retreat together—through shared moments, humor, deep conversation, and presence. You are not just a guest here; you are a vital part of the unfolding.

At the core of this retreat is a calling in—for presence, for embodiment, for the kind of connection that nourishes from within.

In a world that often pulls us away from ourselves, I believe in the radical act of returning. Returning to the breath. Returning to the body. Returning to what’s real and alive and tender within us.

This retreat is for anyone craving more than just movement. It’s for those who want to feel deeply—who are ready to slow down, drop in, and rediscover the quiet intelligence of their own being. It’s for the curious, the tender-hearted, the weary, and the wild. For anyone who wants to soften their armor, shed the “shoulds”, and live more fully in their body.

My hope is that you leave Morocco not only feeling stronger and more open physically, but more connected to your inner landscape—more in tune with your intuition and more resourced in your nervous system to meet life with more capacity.

This retreat is not about escape. It is  about remembrance. It would be an honor to hold space for your unfolding.

If your body is whispering yes, I hope you will listen.

Join me in Morocco for a retreat that is more than a getaway—it is a journey into presence, a celebration of embodiment, and a sanctuary for your nervous system to rest and reset.

Whether you’ve been practicing for years or are just beginning to tune in, you are welcome here. All of you. The strong and the soft. The curious and the cautious. The radiant, the unraveling, the becoming.

Together, we will move, breathe, laugh, cry, and root into a deeper knowing of ourselves—and each other.

This is your invitation to come home. To your body, to your breath, to a wild and wondrous corner of the world… and to the truth of who you are when you let yourself fully be.

I cannot wait to meet you there.
