Day of the Dead in Oaxaca, Mexico

An unique yoga retreat to celebrate Mexican cuisine, the wonders of nature, art & expression and the incredible tradition of Dia de los Muertos in Oaxaca, Mexico, the heart of the Day of the Dead celebration. Soulful yoga will anchor each day.

Our retreat will embrace the festivities that unfold over the three days of the holiday, October 31, November 1 & 2, in an explosion of color and life-affirming joy. During this time we will create our own alter for loved ones lost, we will each have the chance for face paintings Catrina-style to head out into the town to celebrate with the locals in parades, parties, song and dance.

amazing cuisine

Oaxaca is the home of Mexico’s most amazing cuisine. We will explore the food markets, agave fields, experience a cooking class, taste mezcales and be pampered by our own private chef and mixologist right in our own luxury villa (meet Sam below!).

Luxury villa accommodations, nature excursions, optional spa services, and shopping time will round out our days on retreat here in beautiful Oaxaca.

Sam is the perfect combination of culinary & mixology magic with the palate of a child born in Mexico City yet raised in the Hudson Valley, NY surrounded by some of the best culinary minds and tables in the US. After graduating with a degree in Hospitality Management he continued to study in the Food & Beverage industry at the Culinary Institute of America and worked for the next 20 years between the US and Mexico in the biz from kitchen, to bar to front of house. His focus is now on Oaxaca’s gem, mezcal.

Ready to settle down back in his native land, Sam decided to call the Caribbean of Tulum, Mexico his new home. While managing a high-end hotel on the beach he met his match with the artisanal mezcal genius that is Gracias a Dios and hasn’t looked back. From becoming the international voice for the company to mixing unique cocktails with their incredible varieties of mezcal and gin (you heard that right, an agave GIN!) he is excited to be joining us on his turf in Oaxaca to create a few meals for us to enjoy and mix up the cocktails when it’s time for happy hour and Catrina face painting before the Day of the Dead festivities. Also he will trail-blaze us through the markets introducing us to local ingredients, encouraging us to try chapulines (uhhh those are grasshoppers!) and in general just being an awesome guy.

We are thrilled for this amazing collaboration and looking forward to exploring Oaxaca together. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity!

describing the Day of the Dead celebrations
in Oaxaca!

“When I met Wendy in Cuba, I had been suffering from 5 weeks of extreme digestive pain and insomnia. I had gone through rigorous medical testing and it seemed that the only rational cause was stress. Throughout the five days of yoga practice with her, my pain went away and I enjoyed deeply restive sleep. Wendy‚Äôs style of yoga teaching helped to restore my health plus the setting and the retreat itself were spectacular! Can’t wait to go on another yoga adventure with these ladies!”

I highly recommend a retreat with Yoga & Adventures

‚ÄúBest thing I have done for myself! Christina and Sofi were very welcoming and made it a safe space to be in for 5 days. I traveled solo and was slightly nervous and was welcomed by their friendly faces and immediately felt comfortable. The hotel was also great and the house was clean and in a central location. The town has many great restaurants and shops close by. The retreat schedule was perfect allowing time for 2 yoga classes a day and plenty of free time to do other activities. I highly recommend a retreat with Yoga & Adventures Worldwide and hope to try another retreat location in the future!”

–Tiffany Z. Pittsburg, PA USA

enlightening fun & soulful experience

‚ÄúA bucket-list must! My yoga retreat was incredible. Such an enlightening fun & soulful experience that its going back on my bucket list. The group of woman running it, from the yoga teachers, to the coordinators/admins, to the owner, are beautiful people who helped make the experience as awesome as it was. The excursions were wild and intense (in a good way) , well organized, the food was very yummy and the practice & schedule was perfect. Compared to other retreats this was affordable. Highly recommend this yoga retreat, no matter what destination!”

–Katie B., Vancouver, BC CAN

‚ÄúParadise Found!!¬†The trip with Yoga & Adventures Worldwide was phenomenal, I highly recommend it. I didn’t know what to expect and the trip surpassed everything I could have dreamed of. It may have actually been the best vacation I’ve ever had. Christina does an amazing job putting this retreat together and she is also an awesome person to have around. Sofi paid attention to all the details with so much care, was always available to help with everything, and also made things fun. Nina, the leader of yoga and meditation, was fantastic with a great sense of humor, and a key leader in getting us into the groove of relaxation, meditation, and bliss. I am so grateful that I found this retreat on a whim, it’s the luckiest thing that has ever happened to me.”

–Emily C., London, England UK

so refreshed

“This retreat was just what I needed and I was so refreshed and full of life when I got back! I can‚Äôt thank you enough for everything! It was absolutely amazing and the best time!” –Jenny G., Tampa FL, USA

We loved it!

‚ÄúWe loved it!¬†My wife and I joined the retreat in January 2017. It was just the right mix of yoga, downtime, and excursions. We also got a chance to try many things for the first time, including stand up paddle board, a sweat lodge and breathing exercises. The food was great, yoga instruction incredible, and Mexico is just a really amazing place. Can’t recommend this highly enough!”
