200 HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING
with Laurie Greene
About Laurie :
Laurie Greene, PhD, E-RYT, YBR
(with Edward Clark at Utopia : El Cuyo June, 2022)
A PhD in anthropology, Laurie has practiced yoga since age 15, having grown up in a “yoga family”. Since then, yoga has become her healthy addiction. Always an enthusiastic student, Laurie combines her training in a variety of classical “hatha” traditions, bringing insights and techniques from all these to her eclectic teaching and practice. Training extensively in the Iyengar tradition, emphasis is on safety, technique and proper alignment so that students will get the greatest benefits from their practice, and easily experience the joy that yoga affords every fitness level. Laurie is also certified in Vinyasa flow and is registered with the Yoga Alliance as an “experienced teacher” and trainer.
Her continuing exploration of classical and newer interpretations of Astanga Vinyasa have led her to study with many amazing teachers; and to all of them she is forever grateful. The studio has become a place where many of these and new teachers gather and continue to inspire. Having completed her 500 hour certification with the wonderful Edward Clark & Elizabeth Connelly, Laurie’s passion lies in blending many styles into a practice that is instructive, creative and fun. Laurie is the proud parent of three grown children!
About the course :
This 200 Yoga Alliance recognized course will provide the fundamentals needed to begin teaching secure in your knowledge of history, philosophy, practice, and critical issues facing the evolution of modern yoga. This course is intended for those that already have a solid and dedicated yoga practice who wish to learn best principles for teaching. The course structure and content emphasize the integration of theory and practice, and provides information which is relevant to the enterprise of teaching yoga as a living discipline which is the product of, yet not wholly beholden to its ancient past. Ancient texts will be taught along with modern Western science so that teachers can decide if and how philosophical content can be made meaningful in modern instructional settings.
Commitment: 24 days in residence at Utopia : El Cuyo and 20 hours online (Zoom)– includes online resources available via private blog. We will have sessions for 8 hours per day for 22 days to meet the Yoga Alliance requirements. This includes theory and practice onsite.

200 HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING
Praise for Laurie Greene :
“Whether you are searching for a yoga class or teacher training, Laurie Greene is a terrific teacher of asana and breathwork. Awesome technique instruction, intelligent cues and sequences link body, breath, and mind. I completed my teacher training in 2007 with Laurie and I continue to learn with every class I take.”
-Kate S.
“Laurie taught me how to breathe. Her teaching has allowed mr to be in tune with the most subtle nature of my body. Her teacher training program abides in the true nature of yoga, where there is no separation between yoga philosophy and physical asana practice…as a result of my training with Laurie, my mind and body have entered into a loving absorption. Yoga is only useful when it is applied in real life. My training allowed me to confidently change direction and devote myself to meaningful social action. I have also been able to work toward improving my own teaching and instructing anyone who walks in my door-regardless of experience, age, background, or condition…to master the ability to focus on the smallest to largest points…and then help others to do the same.”
-Annie
“I have been practicing with Laurie for 12+ years and I still think that I learn something new every time I take her class! Her knowledge of anatomy and application of kinesiology shows through in her well thought-out sequences. What I appreciate most is Laurie’s ability to “assist” which helps you to continually deepen your practice, and to “adjust” which develops awareness of in your practice.”
-Tara T.

El Cuyo Travel Tips :
Fly into Cancun International airport (CUN). Please note that Cancun is in the state of Quintana Roo and El Cuyo is in the state of Yucatan. There is a time difference of 1 hour in the winter months for WINTER DAYLIGHT SAVINGS. Please make sure to double check the time zones well as you plan your travel.
–
From Cancun Airport to El Cuyo, travel time is approximately 2.5 hours drive through small villages and open jungle highways. Our drivers are very safe and reliable and we can arrange transfers from airport to villa door for you if you like. Just send along your full flight details and we will try to pair you with others traveling on a similar schedule to and from the retreat. Pricing depends on how many are in the ride.
–
Taxis are not allowed to wait outside the Cancun International airport at arrivals so a transfer needs to be arranged for a private car service pick up in advance or there is a local bus that takes you to El Cuyo. For arriving on your own to El Cuyo by bus you’ll need to go from the airport in Cancun to the town of Cancun station and then from there to Colonia Yucatan and then from there, you’d grab a taxi to El Cuyo. To find out more details check out this site.

There are no ATMS in El Cuyo and everything is better paid in cash as most places do not accept credit cards. Please plan to take out cash in Mexican pesos at the airport ATM upon arrival or exchange your currency at the airport for Mexican pesos. Some places accept credit cards but it’s always a better idea to have cash just in case. That said there is not a lot of shopping in El Cuyo as it is a quiet town with beach and chill. We accept credit cards at the villa for any extra food items you’d like to add to your room tab. There is an a la carte menu for drinks, smoothie bar and lunches as well as 2 optional dinners at the house. Cash tips for food service are appreciated

Wifi is not the most reliable and does come in and out at times along with the electricity though it is getting better. The villa has a generator for these circumstances to provide power but internet comes from further away so if the power does go out, internet will lapse as well. It usually comes back fairly quickly and offers a nice chance to sit back and relax and watch the stars. If you need super reliable internet please let us know to discuss this further. The idea is to unplug and be offline as much as possible. Phone signals are possible so make sure your local telephone provider works in Mexico or extend your service to include Mexico while you are on retreat. That way friends and family can contact you if necessary and vice versa…we know, old school right?!
–
There are no specialized stores and although there are a few pharmacies in the town if a specific drug is required, you would have to travel by car to the city of Tizimín about an hour away so please plan on bringing everything you might think you will need with you from home.
–
Finally there is very little nightlife to speak of in El Cuyo at this time but that is why we are in love with it!
